Another EPIX Lab publication! Our letter to the editor, Compared to Whom? Using Target Trial Emulation to Improve Causal Inference, has been published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology 🎉
The relationship between coffee consumption and health outcomes has been a long-standing interest in epidemiologic research. This has been further affirmed by a recent publication in the European Heart Journal that focused on the association between coffee drinking timing and mortality risk. Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), the authors concluded that consuming coffee in the morning may be more strongly associated with a lower risk of all-cause and cardiovascular-specific mortality than drinking coffee throughout the day.1 The findings are compelling, and we wish to propose the application of a target trial framework and highlight the study’s methodologic implications.
Congratulations Cindy Wen (MD/PhD Student, Department of Public Health Sciences, Queen's University), Dr. Giada Sebastiani, and Dr. Sahar Saeed on the publication!!!
