Building Capacity in Research Methods in Rwanda

Writer: Sahar SaeedSahar Saeed

Six month ago CIHR awarded Fidel Rubagumya, M.D, MMed, MPH, and I a grant entitled “🌍 Bridging a Gap in Global Oncology Research: Building Capacity in Research Methods in Rwanda 🏥." On January 22, 2024, we conducted our week-long workshop!

Africa is home to 15% of the global population; however, it shoulders a quarter of the global disease burden and produces only 2% of the world’s research output. The continued disparities of African representation in research done in Africa—is arguably unethical and linked with epistemic injustices.

This initiative is a partnership between Queen’s University and five hospitals providing cancer care in Rwanda to cultivate local capacity. Thank you CIHR!
